Celebrating 50 Days to go By Lauren Snyders Metrorail
entertained and encouraged learners from Rosendal Primary in Delft to embrace
the Soccer World Cup, last Wednesday (21 April), the day that marked 50 days
to the kick-off to the 2010 Soccer World Cup. The
learners from Rosendal Primary had the chance to express their feeling
towards the World Cup by creating a piece of art to display at Cape Town
station. Their entire excursion started from Pentech station in Belhar from
where they travelled to Cape Town station on the Edutrain. They
sang the South African national anthem while waving their South African flags
on arrival. Mrs
Daphne Kayster, Marketing and Promotions Manager of Metrorail said in
addition to rail safety awareness about the Soccer World Cup were also spread
among the learners on the train. “We also provided them with this opportunity
to express themselves with their view of Cape Town and soccer.” The
three winning artworks each received a prize from Metrorail. Third place
winner, Kirsten Losper said: “I am glad I am one of the winners and I am
happy that we could come to the station today.” The
learners also participated in kicking goals. This formed part of Cape Town
Scoring Goals 2010, which Metrorail thought would be a fun idea for the
learners. “We
have generated such excitement among the rail community we serve for the
world cup including Edutrain learners and the commuting public,” said
Kayster. The
learners also visited the Iziko Museum and the Planetarium. Grassy Park E.C Primary
enjoyed the same excurtion the next day. |
