Massive Clean-up and Safety Awareness Campaign

 

As part of enhancing the Regional Manager’s Programme of Action (PoA), the Regional Manager, Mthuthuzeli Swartz, embarked on a massive Safety and Clean-up campaign at Du Toit station on Wednesday, 10th October 2012.

Activities on the day included a clean-up at the station, painting of safety messages on the platform, distribute Safety Pamphlets/flyers, interacting with customers etc. Commuter Forum members (UCV), staff & management, Sport Team members and the media also joined him on this programme.

Some of the objectives for this exercise included amongst others the following:

  • Boost our public image,
  • Promote a positive image – a welcoming, peaceful and harmonious environment,
  • Encourage a healthy rail environment,
  • To attract potential customers and retain current customers to view rail as a transport of choice,
  • Improve customer comfortability etc.

The Regional Manager, Mthuthuzeli Swartz, welcomed all those present. He also alluded to his Programme of Action and the importance of employee and community involvement in these activities.

Contractors were also assisting by cutting the tall grass and bush surrounding the rail tracks and station

The station building exterior was given much needed attention and the roof was one of the focus areas

Station Marshals on the platforms were visibly ensuring Commuter Safety

UCV members, PRASA Cres and Metrorail employees handed out Rail Safety information to the surrounding communities

Community members were also made aware of the importance of their safety when crossing railway tracks
