Themba the Edutrain:
Metrorail’s initiative in 1997 to create a classroom-on-wheels, has truly set the wheels in motion to expose learners to places beyond their reach. Brightly coloured and well equipped with two classrooms, a staff room, video machines, overhead projectors and microphones, the Edutrain travels between Cape Town, Newlands, Klapmuts, Simon’s Town and the Cape Winelands.
The train collects learners at the station closest to their school and takes them on an educational journey, visiting museums and places of interest.A dedicated co-ordinator organises the trips, while two qualified educators guide and assist learners throughout the journey. The educators are seconded to the Edutrain by the Western Cape Educational Department.
• Commutes weekly from Mondays to Thursdays, 8:30 – 14:30
• Caters for approximately 80 – 100 learners, Grades 4-8
